PLEASE NOTE:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR DRESSAGE to MUSIC COMPETITORS:

BRC members do not need to join BD for music licence, as the Qualifier (and Championship) now falls under BRC music licence. BRC Competitors also do not need to get the stickers from BD to put on their music.

(They only need to do this if they are also competing in BD music classes).

Eligibility for all classes can be found in the current BRC Handbook. Eligibility will be taken from the Friday before the qualifier. All competitors must be a member and be on the BRC Database by midday the Friday before the qualifier. Anyone failing to meet the eligibility criteria will be disqualified and informed by BRC HQ when the results are processed.

We are delighted to welcome back NAF as sponsors of the Introductory Dressage Championships. NAF are the most trusted brand for equine supplements in Europe and are proud to partner British Riding Clubs, sponsoring what promises be a truly magical competition.

Competitor times will be sent to Team Managers on Thursday 23rd November.

*Please note:

NO CHANGES ARE PERMITTED AFTER 12.00pm (midday) on Wednesday 22nd November.

Flu Vacc checking at Arena UK Show Centre on day of qualifier.

Please remember it is the owner’s / competitor’s responsibility to make sure the horse’s / pony’s vaccination certificate is correct. If a certificate is found to be incorrect the horse / pony will be issued either a yellow or red card. A red card flu vac certificate will not be permitted to compete at the Qualifier. A disqualified horse / pony is not permitted to be substituted at the qualifier.

Dressage to Music tests will be ridden in a 60m x 20m arena.

Please use bridle or saddle numbers which are to be worn one each side of bridle or saddle.

This competition will run under BRC Rules, anyone in attendance will be bound by the BRC Code of Conduct. It is important that all competitors are aware of the rules relating to this competition – please see the current BRC Handbook and the BRC Rule Amendments and Changes Document which can be found at the link below:

https://www.bhs.org.uk/british-riding-clubs/brc-downloads/brc-handbook/

Individuals under the age of 12 are not permitted in warm-up arenas on foot under any circumstances. Rule G20.2 refers.

All BRC code of conduct rules must be observed at the event unless the venue / organiser has given specific instructions that are still in line with health and safety guidelines. This includes: the welfare of the horses and ponies; the conduct of members, officials, volunteers, and representatives; safeguarding and equality and diversity as well as social media and discipline.

For further information on the BRC codes of conduct please see the BRC handbook.

Members should ensure that they are up to date with the BRC code of conduct to encourage a smooth competition; anyone found to be in breach of the BRC code of conduct is subject to discipline from the BRC disciplinary committee at their discretion.

Entry Restrictions:

For further eligibility queries, please see the BRC handbook, Section 2, page 92.

For teams, each rider will ride a different test, this is the test they will ride at the championships should they qualify. Only the team’s best 3 scores will count. For the pair’s classes, both riders will ride the test at the same time, parallel to one another. The pick a test class is a mixed class for both Juniors and Seniors.

BRC have adjusted the numbers to qualify due to requests from many areas. For further information on the numbers to qualify for BRC championships, members are advised to review the BRC 2023 handbook.

Withdrawals, Refunds and Cancellations:

BRC will credit note at their discretion, should the team manager need to withdraw any members from competition, it is up to the discretion of the organiser for refunds. If the event is cancelled and rescheduled within 21 days of the original event then all entries will remain and be carried over to the new date, with pre-entries for the qualifier NOT re-opening. If the new qualifier date is more than 21 days after the original date, then pre-entries will reopen and close again 21 days before the new qualifier date. Those unable to make the new date have 14 working days to claim a credit note from BRC. Eligibility will be taken from the close of the new entries date.

For any qualifier that is cancelled and not rescheduled, clubs will have 14 working days from the date of cancellation to claim a credit note from BRC.

PPE:

Hats:

All hats must have a visible HOT PINK BRC/BE/PC hat tag in place before they are worn on the showground, to show that they meet the current safety standards.  There will be a trained official available on the day to do this for you if your hat does not currently have one. For up-to-date hat rules please see the current BRC Handbook. Hats with a fixed peak can ONLY be used for dressage and show jumping.

All competitors should note that from January 2023:

  • PAS 015: 1998
  • SNELL E2001

Are no longer accepted as part of BRC hat standards.

Body Protectors:

A body protector is not obligatory for dressage competitions. However, competitors may wear an up-to-date standard body protector should they wish to, for up-to-date list of standards for body protectors please see the BRC handbook.

Riders wearing Exo Body Cage protectors must inform the secretary at all events, so medics can be informed.

Flu Vaccinations:

Your horse must have up to date influenza vaccinations in line with rule G7 in the current BRC Handbook. There is also a checking device on the BRC website. If you are unsure, please email BRC at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

 Health and Safety

Further information on BRC’s health and safety guidelines can be found in Section 3.7 page 126 of the BRC handbook.

The organisers oversee ensuring the appropriate health and safety precautions are being observed. Competitors, visitors, and officials are responsible for ensuring they all individually follow all guidelines put forth by the organiser / venue to ensure the health and safety of everyone present.

 Music:

You can use any music from the record labels listed on the Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) repertoire list.  Music that is not on the list can still be used but cannot be used alongside PPL listed music. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that the music they are using is correctly licensed before competing.

Music must be recorded on a USB, the envelope should be clearly marked with rider’s name, competitor number and name of horse. Although USBs are reliable it is best practice to have a spare copy!

 Performance:

Horses will only be permitted to compete in two individual championship classes (direct entry, warm up classes and pairs not included). Competitors that qualify the same horse in three individual championship classes will be required to choose which classes they will contest at the Championship. This must be declared to the Official Steward on the day of the area qualifier.

In the pairs dressage to music the horses and riders will be expected to ride together, side by side, for at least 80% of the test.

Pairs Dressage to Music, for a pair of riders made up of any combination of senior and junior members using a Novice level test with open eligibility.

Elementary Dressage to Music, mixed class for senior and junior individuals.

Pick a Test Dressage to Music, mixed class for senior and junior individuals competing at Medium and/or Advanced Medium, this class will be judged as one at the qualifier but may

be split at the Championship if entries are sufficient.

Time Allowed

In Advanced Medium, Medium, Elementary and Pairs Dressage to Music the time allowed is 4½ to 5 minutes. In Novice and Prelim Dressage to Music the time allowed is 4 to 5 minutes. All DTM tests are timed from the first halt to the final halt.

If in Pairs Dressage competitors take more than the time allowed for the test it may have an adverse effect on the marks awarded for Artistic Merit.
