Riders no longer need to be a member of BD in order to ride in BRC Dressage to Music qualifiers.
Eligibility has changed for Winter 2024-2025 season and onwards, eligibility can be found on the winter 2024-25 eligibility update( winter-champs-2025.pdf (bhs.org.uk))./BRC 2025 Handbook. Eligibility will be taken from close of pre-entry. All competitors must be a member & competitors must be a registered current member of the correct club on Sport80 by midday the Friday before the qualifier. Anyone failing to meet the eligibility criteria will be disqualified and informed by BRC HQ when the results are processed.

Area Entries:
After a pre-entry has been made, the designated club member who is in charge of organising the team/individual taking part in the event must also ensure an area entry is made. Late area fees are subject to the organiser’s discretion. If a pre-entry is made, clubs are agreeing to a binding constitution which means they must make an area entry payable to the designated account, regardless of whether or not the team/individual competes.
The entry must be signed by a senior club member/individual member who is also a BRC member. This certifies that all entries are in accordance with BRC rules. Entries will not be accepted if BRC has not received a Pre-entry.

Declarations of Alterations:
Team managers must declare any alterations to the original entry in writing by email. For changes on the day, forms will be available at the qualifier. Alterations must be made no later than 60 minutes before the advertised start of the qualifier.

Please remember it is the owner’s / competitor’s responsibility to make sure the horse’s / pony’s vaccination certificate is correct. If a certificate is found to be incorrect the horse / pony will be issued either a yellow or red card. A red card flu vacc certificate will not be permitted to compete at the Qualifier. A disqualified horse / pony is not permitted to be substituted at the qualifier.
Competitors to provide their music on USB’s. Although USB’s are reliable, it is useful to have a back-up USB for use if required.
Dressage to Music tests will be ridden in a 60m x 20m arena.
Please print and use bridle or saddle numbers and to be worn one each side of bridle or saddle.
This competition will run under BRC Rules, anyone in attendance will be bound by the BRC Code of Conduct. It is important that all competitors are aware of the rules relating to this competition – please see the current BRC Handbook and also the BRC Rule Amendments and Changes Document which can be found at the link below:
Individuals under the age of 12 are not permitted in warm-up arenas on foot under any circumstances. Rule G20.2 refers.
All BRC code of conduct rules must be observed at the event unless the venue / organiser has given specific instructions that are still in line with health and safety guidelines. This includes: the welfare of the horses and ponies; the conduct of members, officials, volunteers and representatives; safeguarding and equality and diversity as well as social media and discipline.

Members should ensure that they are up to date with the BRC code of conduct to encourage a smooth competition; anyone found to be in breech of the BRC code of conduct is subject to discipline from the BRC disciplinary committee at their discretion.
Entry Restrictions:
For further eligibility queries, please see the BRC handbook, Section 2, page 92.
For teams, each rider will ride a different test, this is the test they will ride at the championships should they qualify. Only the team’s best 3 scores will count. For the pair’s classes, both riders will ride the test at the same time, parallel to one another. The pick a test class is a mixed class for both Juniors and Seniors.
BRC have adjusted the numbers to qualify due to requests from many areas. For further information on the numbers to qualify for BRC championships, members are advised to review the BRC 2023 handbook.
Withdrawals, Refunds and Cancellations:
BRC will credit note at their discretion, should the team manager need to withdraw any members from competition, it is up to the discretion of the organiser for refunds. If the event is cancelled and rescheduled within 21 days of the original event then all entries will remain and be carried over to the new date, with pre-entries for the qualifier NOT re-opening. If the new qualifier date is more than 21 days after the original date, then pre-entries will reopen and close again 21 days before the new qualifier date. Those unable to make the new date have 14 working days to claim a credit note from BRC. Eligibility will be taken from the close of the new entries date.
For any qualifier that is cancelled and not rescheduled, clubs will have 14 working days from the date of cancellation to claim a credit note from BRC.
PPE:
Hats:
All hats must have a visible PINK BRC/BE/PC hat tag in place before they are worn on the showground, to show that they meet the current safety standards. There will be a trained official available on the day to do this for you if your hat does not currently have one. For up-to-date hat rules please see the current BRC Handbook. Hats with a fixed peak can ONLY be used for dressage and show jumping.
Body Protectors:
A body protector is not obligatory for dressage competitions. However, competitors may wear an up-to-date standard body protector should they wish to, for up-to-date list of standards for body protectors please see the BRC handbook.
Riders wearing Exo Body Cage protectors must inform the secretary at all events, so medics can be informed.
Flu Vaccinations:
Your horse must have up to date influenza vaccinations in line with rule G7 in the current BRC Handbook. There is also a checking device on the BRC website. If you are unsure, please email BRC at

Health and Safety
Further information on BRC’s health and safety guidelines can be found in Section 3.7 page 126 of the BRC handbook.
The organisers oversee ensuring the appropriate health and safety precautions are being observed. Competitors, visitors, and officials are responsible for ensuring they all individually follow any and all guidelines put forth by the organiser / venue to ensure the health and safety of everyone present.
Music:
You can use any music from the record labels listed on the Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) repertoire list. Tracks not listed cannot be used. Music that is not on the list can still be used but cannot be used alongside PPL listed music. It is the riders responsibility to ensure that the music they are using is correctly licensed before competing
Music must be recorded on a USB, the envelope should be clearly marked with rider’s name, competitor number and name of horse. Although USB’s are reliable it is best practice to have a spare copy!
Performance:
Horses will only be permitted to compete in two individual championship classes (direct entry, warm up classes and pairs not included). Competitors that qualify the same horse in three individual championship classes will be required to choose which classes they will contest at the Championship. This must be declared to the Official Steward on the day of the area qualifier.
In the pairs dressage to music the horses and riders will be expected to ride together, side by side, for at least 80% of the test.
Pairs Dressage to Music, for a pair of riders made up of any combination of senior and junior members using a Novice level test with open eligibility
Elementary Dressage to Music, mixed class for senior and junior individuals.
Pick a Test Dressage to Music, mixed class for senior and junior individuals competing at Medium and/or Advanced Medium, this class will be judged as one at the qualifier but may
be split at the Championship if entries are sufficient.
Time Allowed
In Advanced Medium, Medium, Elementary and Pairs Dressage to Music the time allowed is 4½ to 5 minutes. In Novice and Prelim Dressage to Music the time allowed is 4 to 5 minutes. All DTM tests are timed from the first halt to the final halt.
If in Pairs Dressage competitors take more than the time allowed for the test it may have an adverse effect on the marks awarded for Artistic Merit.
