The BHS is asking for last-minute amendments to the new Highway Code, which could be in force in August. The BHS suggested amendments to the new Highway Code to the Secretary of State back in February 2006. But according to BHS director of access, safety and welfare Mark Weston, some have apparently been ignored. The Code will forbid riding two horses abreast on narrow and busy roads and when riding around bends. It will also exclude horses from all cycle tracks. There can be many valid reasons for riding two abreast: groups of riders, nervous horses, novice riders, and defensive riding on winding country lanes where there is insufficient room for a car to pass a single horse safely. Breaches of the Highway Code could potentially be used in evidence in any court proceedings under the Traffic Acts in order to establish liability in an accident. There are many cycle tracks which have been specifically designed for use by horse riders, and the loss of these would be very serious for those who rely on them.
Instruction Rallies
On the first and second Thursday of each month there are evening instruction rallies held at the indoor school of James and Di walker at Ravendale and at our outdoor site at Brigg Road Caistor. These rallies will be taken by Fiona Harrison on the first Thursday and by Emma Lee on the second Thursday and there will be two sessions, 6 to 7pm and 7 to 8pm. Due to rising costs for prices for 2007 are :-
4 riders £12 each
3 riders £15 each
2 riders £20 each
Please book early to ensure a place but still ring if you would like to go on as we often have cancellation’s. by contacting Joy Clark on 07759 426853 or email.
These rallies are subsidised and therefore only open to NLRC members.
Show jumping Rallies
These are held at our outdoor site at Brigg Road Caister and are taken by Tessa Blackburn. They are ¾ hour in duration and are usually on an individual basis but if anyone would like to share a lesson that is also acceptable. The sessions are geared to whatever level the rider request’s. The cost for this is Individual £22 shared £15
These are also open to non-members if spaces at a cost of £25
Please note for any Rally - that if for any reason you have to withdraw at the last minute, please let me know via mobile as soon as you can as I may have a member on the waiting list, if it is too late to find a replacement and the cancellation is less than 48hrs the instructor still has to be paid so the club requires you to pay for any cancelled sessions.
FLU VACCINATIONS
Can we once again remind people that for any one entering any Riding Club Qualifiers it is your responsibility to make sure that your Flu Vaccination's are correct. We are willing and able to check for you, but any doubts please ask for us to check your documents before you enter. On the day of competition you must have with you, your full documentation from the first 3 starter injections there must be no gaps even if you have had it done yearly this can still be wrong! also no photo copies are accepted. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be only too happy to help you?
This year British Riding Clubs are rigorously enforcing the Flu Vaccination rules at all qualifying competitions. With the introduction of passports many riders believe that because it shows a horse is up to date with its boosters there is no need to carry the vaccination certificates with them. This is not the case. Several competitors have been turned away from competitions because they cannot show the certificates for the original three vaccinations. Some have provided proof of boosters for the last fifteen years but, being unable to show the original starter vaccinations, have been turned away. Please note photocopies are not acceptable. If in doubt it is better to start again with a fresh course of vaccinations.
Flu vaccinations will be checked at all qualifying competitions- There will be a dedicated person checking and under no circumstances will you be allowed to ride without their OK.
Passport Check List:
1. Make sure you have your passport with you when transporting your horse.
2. If you have bought a horse with a passport ensure it is registered in your ownership with the passport issuing organisation (simply writing your name in the passport is insufficient!).
3. Ensure if you have changed address you have updated the passport issuing organisation with your new address details.
4. If you have bought a horse without a passport get one straight away.
